The galloping rock on New York City collective Gramercy Arms 'self-titled album pops and fizzles with an unassuming energy. It's a decidedly summery, upbeat record, full of high-harmonies, bouncing and bopping tempos and warm, fuzzy vibes. This kind of music should be easy to pull off — we've all heard it before — but the best kind of power-pop (and Gramercy Arms definitely belongs in that group) nails the intangibles. It instinctually know what chord to hit next, when to drop in a minor key, when to let loose. When members of various indie luminaries (Guided By Voices, Luna, Joan as Police Woman) came together to make the album, they — lucky for us — got it right.
