It sounds exactly like Hammock, and the tracks are all very well-done, but none of them stick in my mind after listening to the album. I've given it a while to grow on me, but to be honest, it hasn't. Pleasant to listen to, but not half as engaging as the earlier "Kenotic" and "Raising Your Voice".
Another beautiful guitar-oriented allegory. Deeply felt reflective washes pervade this shoegazer. This is on a creative power-level with Robin Guthrie, and Ulrich Schnauss. The second track "Tristia" is quite stunning to say the very least. Highly Recommended.
This new record finds a very natural sounding progression for Hammock. They have taken elements of their sound so far and packaged it neatly in a very fresh and inspiring way. Simply gorgeous spaces, ethereal moods, calm, yet engaging music from start to finish. Brilliance distilled into 12 songs.
After several years of officially released material, during which time Hammock maintained a balance between timbre-driven minimalism and the kind of cascading, melodic rock music identifiable as another chamber in the house that Robin Guthrie built, the duo have finally elected faceless ambiguity. This album lacks the variety and innovation of their portentous earlier material, and betrays a sentiment that ponderous self-restraint is barely compatible with more complex musical themes and statements -- a notion long ago debunked by many other musicians. The cause for sadness here is that Hammock were well on their way to being one of the most prominent torch carriers and developers of the dream-rock/ethereal sound. Instead, they've relegated themselves to an atmospheric limbo -- not as powerful a direction as their earlier music suggested they would take us listeners.
...just as wonderful as their previous releases...the hammock faithful (like myself) will not be disappointed...it iss simply stunning...
