Best Old School of the New School
Two things you need to know: The delivery of this tag team will remind you of the old school back and forth of such giants as the Beastie Boys. Lyrics like, "It's hot, like Suzanne Sommers in the Sudan summer..." keep the mood of this album fun and upbeat. These soldiers of the Def Jux crew use a familiar style that is at the same time such a breath of fresh air in the current hip-hop climate. While the lyrical dexterity will keep you interested, the playful old-school vibe propped up by memorable modern beats will have you spinning this disc over and over again. Though the follow-up, "Sweep the Leg" was somewhat of a letdown, not much can diminish the strength of this LP which will appeal to fans of both old-school delivery done at triple speed and top-notch emcees. Just sample any track. If you dig the delivery, you will undoubtedly consider the album a five-star classic as I do.
