Hank, Sr. - An Original

lattad

If you like country music, Hank, Sr. can't be beat. He is the master, as pure as the driven snow. Every song is a classic.

Songs from Artists like Hank Williams have meaning. They tell a story, instead of one line in a song repeated over and over.

Hank Williams - Country Music Legends

bgwade

Twenty of his hits that have been played over and over and over, and still need to be played over and over and over. He was, is, and will always be the true heart and soul of country music. If your music fails to connect in any way with Hank's music, then, Buddy, you just ain't country. Listen to these 20 songs, and if you cannot feel the heart of country music, you still ain't country - period.

Hank was the Best of Country

Highnumber

This is essential to any collection of American music. Top notch all the way through. The humor, the pathos...it's got everything that all great pop music has. Great talent whose absence can never be measured.

Hank

My Dad loved Hank Williams. He passed away last year and just hearing the man sing brings fond memories of my Dad.

The King of Country Music

jnjenfield

This is real country music. Hank, like Buddy Holly, was a real innovator who brought a new, distinctive sound to his genre and sadly, died just when his career was really starting to take off. Despite their short lifespans in music, they both left a legacy other singers can only hope to live up to.

Very different from what I expected

zhlub

Like other reviewers I grew up despising "country music". This is quite different, partly because it's just so good, partly because it's very different from the horrible Nashville 80's stuff that put us all off so thoroughly. If you like bluegrass or blues, you may well like this very much.

So happy this is on eMusic

Chomskyite

I downloaded several of these songs from another provider. Of course, because of the associated garbage, I can't copy it to my MP3 player. I grew up on Hank Williams and opther country music from that era. Fantastic, traditional music.

Six Degrees of Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors

By Yancey Strickler, eMusic Contributor

It used to be easier to pretend that an album was its own perfectly self-contained artifact. The great records certainly feel that way. But albums are more permeable than solid, their motivations, executions and inspirations informed by, and often stolen from, their peers and forbearers. It all sounds awfully formal, but it's not. It's the very nature of music — of art, even. The Six Degrees features examine the relationships between classic records and five… more »

A Field Report from the New Country

By Lenny Kaye, eMusic Contributor

Whither country music - or will it wither? Most of the c&w on strut at the recent CMA awards had more to do with 80's power-rock and 00's teen-pop than the morning farm report. In recent years, an alt-country movement in such Willy-billy suburbs as Brooklyn's Williamsburg has waved a country flag, along with a taste for trucker's caps and Pabst Blue Ribbon. This isn't a sudden outcropping on the range; ever since Gram Parsons… more »
