Great Legacy

gspivey50

Although the sound quality is not the best, emusic offers a rare opportunity to download the soundtrack from this timeless musical. The bluegrass beat and timeless lyrics are a fitting legacy to the late great Harry Chapin.

The Only Available CD/MP3s of This Show

... and something is better than nothing. Sure, the recording stinks, but if you want a better one, you'd have to buy the DVD (which is brilliant.) In any case, this is worth downloading for the beautiful, poignant, surprising mix of folk, old-time string music, bluegrass, and Broadway country (composed by Harry Chapin, who surpasses himself). This recording features the outstanding original cast, including Jim Lauderdale -- another nice surprise in an album chock full of them. Did I mention that the music is gorgeous, heartfelt, and humorous to boot?

Great music-poor recording

I agree with the other reviews--there are some real musical gems here, but the recording is poor. If you can get around the recording problems this music can provide some important cultural insights. What would it like if Jesus Christ had come to the earth in our time?

Great music for Chapin fans--recording needs work

I have been looking for this soundtrack for some time. Glad to see it is available. This is wonderful music. The only problem is that the recording needs to be cleaned up. If you ever get the chance, see this performed live on stage. It is truly delightful.

Nice Music - Poor Recording

swgentle

Wonderful soundtrack of the play performed in bluegrass style. This would be most enjoyable, but the "CD rip" by emusic is distorted in many places throughout the soundtrack. It's difficult to listen to in several places. If emusic can work on the distortion issues, it would be an excellent download for those who love Chapin's music or the Cotton Patch version of the Gospel.
