Unusual for a bassist.
Texier is an anomaly in the world of music, I think. The fact that he plays electric on this record at all, much less with the accompaniment of an oud and percussion, is pretty remarkable. But the fact that his playing sometimes sounds like Sting's outtakes (not a bad thing at all to my mind) is also remarkable. He shows restraint and incredible focus of intent on this record. I wish he'd kept going in this vein. It's pretty amazing stuff, I think, especially for 1) a bass player and 2) a jazz musician. Check it out if you're a fan of either, or both. (my only other regret is the sometimes cloying vocals, but it's not that bad...)
