Honeysuckle Full of Poison
The critics loved this when it came out but I felt, at the time, that it seemed like a big sell out move from Courtney, deep in her Fake-Hollywood-Boobs phase. Hole doing straight-world pop songs? Bragging about being the only band left from the grunge movement when they hadn't released an album in 4 years? Wha-? But I'm prepared to swallow my pride now. Listening to it today, it's inescapably a good, solid album (although perhaps a bit front-loaded.) It isn't a match for "Live Through This", but at least it isn't just a tired retread of the old formula, which, let's face it, was getting pretty old by the time Hole even had any hits with it. My favorites are the first 3 tracks. And while Malibu was a fairly successful single, I admit I still don't hear what the fuss is supposed to be about that one. Maybe you'll hear it, though.
