A sizeable blend of squeaky, pipe-cleaner vocals with a large, guitar-fronted assault makes this Calgary quartet a force to be reckoned with. From the opening, “Vive Death!,” it’s quite obvious that lead singer Andrew Wedderburn has a more punk-oriented delivery and pitch. A large portion of the time, this doesn’t really become a factor given the fine musicianship composing a very adventurous album. The group sounds as if they’re trying hard to be unpolished and pleasantly jagged, but numbers like “Let’s Play in Traffic” and “The Last Thing” ooze the polished factor they’re perhaps trying to elude. The punky “Five By Five” is the highlight of the record, but there is a lot of quality to pick from. – Jason MacNeil
