overhyped
I heard great things about this band, and I found this record to be like BTO on acid - a bit more experimental, but worse in quality.

Love Comets on Fire and Colossal Yes. Hadn't heard of Howlin' Rain but was roaming around through all of the Sony junk cluttering this place up when I found this. This is why eMusic is worth its subscription -- totally classic music that even as a fan of the bands these guys come from, I had never heard of. Great find. The album is in constant rotation at my house.
The fact that emusic has albums like this is the reason I keep my subscription. If you like good rock get this album.
Electric and acoustic guitars with fuzz and wah snake riffs through the California sun, a banjo here a horn there, you could swear it was the early 70s and you were listening to some new Quicksilver/Blue Cheer influenced outfit; then, out of nowhere, shards of guitar snarl that would bring a tear to Howe Gelb's eyes cause you to toss your stash all over the floor. This occasional touch of noise adds character and sets this band apart from the host of others revisiting this classic era.
A cracking record and a real surprise. Far more mainstream than Comets and a touch of dare I say the Allman Brothers and Skynyrd. Great tunes, guitars and soaring vocals. Try 'Roll on the rusted days' or 'The Firing Of The Midnight Rain' if don't believe me!
ok, i'll be the first... check this out if you like oakley hall or comets on fire (shares members of). great laid back vibe with husky vocals and check the guitar solo, you'll know it when you hear it!
