Outstanding album in every way. Sit by the fire lights dimmed, whiskey in hand and just listen

She seems unable to set a foot wrong!

Ole'rustyrocks

Another compelling album, she uses her voice to even better effect here with subtle treatment of folk and bluegrass classics, and also rocks when she wants to (Western Cowboy) with a gentle Cajun feel. Download this along with everything else she's done! Beautiful understated version of My Morphine, difficult to pick out a top track, maybe Angel Ballad?

a great voice with a misplaced soul

Verdunguy

I always download releases from this artist, in the vain hopes the singer will relocate her misplaced soul. It has to be there somewhere, because it was so achingly and beautifully evident early in her career. There are moments on this one - but too much is the same and too much is uninspired. The talent here is astonishing, but the great voice seems lost, lacking the soul and swing that characterized her two earliest releases.

Hurray for the Riff Raff’s Long, Wild Ramble to the Top

By J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief

The song she's singing is "Always Be My Baby," which was working its way up the Billboard Top 100 while a… more »

SXSW 2011: Day 1 Report

By J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief

Now well into its second decade, the days during which South By Southwest - and the bands it attracts - could count novelty as a chief draw are long over. And with blogs and social media sites having likewise moved from fad to institution, the odds that anyone would be hearing a band for the first time in Austin is also significantly reduced. And so the thousands of bands looking to make an impression at… more »
