Best composer for wind bands

Thumpdiggity

While Chance is best known for the engaging "Variations on a Korean Folk Song" (which really should be listed as one track, by the way), his best music can be found in the "Symphony" and the heart-wrenching "Elegy", which he wrote only months before his own untimely death, quasi-Mozart Requiem style. He is definitely a composer who deserves your attention.

An obscure Texas legend

Epistrophy

Though he was hardly a household word, Texas-born John Barnes Chance was a hero to wind orchestras and marching bands. Virtually all of his compositions were geared toward that niche, and if you spend a lot of time on college campuses, you might have heard some of his music without knowing it. The music here may not be life-changing, but it's sprightly and winning. If you want to give him a try, I'd suggest #2, the Introduction and Capriccio. Performances are very good throughout.
