I LOVE this band!!! I was so excited to see a new album. Unfortunatly, I can't say it suits my taste. I felt it was a slow durge with none of the flare their past music has had. Sadly, to me, many of the songs seemed to blend together almost as if they were the same song with slightly different lyrics and rifts.Love you guys!! Please keep making music!!
I like this album very much, mostly because of the change in focus of some of songs. I love Promises, Promises because the melody is softer and just sounds great. I also like In the Company of Wolves, for the same reasons and also has a bit of Pink Floyd. I'd buy it again and recommend to many others.
I have been an Incubus fan since inception. This album is exactly what I expected it to be, soft. I still respect the musicianship and understand the need to experiment. I just don't enjoy the music anymore. I am going to continue to listen to this album and hopefully it will grow on me but ever since Light Grenades they have slowly lost something special.
...and even I only liked what I had already heard on the radio. If I listen to this record, then go and listen to S.C.I.E.N.C.E., it makes me want to throw this album in the street and run it over with my car.
Leading up to the release of this album, I got kind of worried because of all the negative reviews--I heard that it was really soft and that they had lost what made them unique. However, after listening to the album, I should have never doubted. Incubus has changed continuously over the years, but I feel that they have always managed to make honest, refreshing music that never sounds quite like anything else--this album is no different. Compared to the rest of their catalogue, this album is definitely on the softer end--sonically speaking--much like Morning View. If you are a fan of the direction that Incubus has been headed in, post Make Yourself--especially the B-sides disc of Monuments and Melodies--this album is for you. What to expect: thoughtful songwriting, soaring melodies, a strong focus on vocals (better than ever), deceptively aggressive musicianship. This is not a Kenny G album, people--don't let the haters discourage you. If Not Now, When? You know what to do.
Like many Incubus fans, I highly anticipated this album. I stayed away from leaks and anything that would blow it for me come release date. I wanted to savor it. Well fellow fans, I will not say I'm disappointed because I appreciate the artists that these guys are and I will gradually embrace this record but I will say I expected more than half of what this record is. That being said I'm not surprised by its direction. For you fans that want Incubus for what we've come to know, this is not the record for you. Just be open to it.
I waited a long time for this album. What the f happened to Incubus. I'll tell you, the boys grew up and decided to be "artist". Sure, the songs are all wonderful expressions, but they lost everything that set Incubus apart and made me love them in the first place. Sadly, I will not be downloading this album. Hey, that's just me. You might like it enough. Give it a listen.
