No More Secrets, the debut record from Italy’s Instrumental Quarter, boasts organic instrumentation that defies categorization. An offshoot of Kash and consisting of three of that outfit’s four members, this troupe structures eight alluring, experimental pieces from acoustic sources. Evoking strains of John Cale, Nick Cave, and the Dirty Three on compositions like the somber “Wings of Torpedo” and the introspective title number, guitarist Paride Lanciani, bassist Luigi Racca, drummer Flavio Cravero, and violoncellist Marco Alloco have crafted an innovative, mysterious, and downright breathtaking record. – John D.
