The most pleasant memories from my youthful concert experience have got to be from the It's A Beautiful Day show in San Diego in 1971. I was 14 and fell right in to the midst of a group of young sailors who were cutting their own teeth on the psychedelic concert experience that was still happening well into the 1970s (and would return in the mid-1980s). This album, a new release, best brings back the feel of the music we heard that night. The reason, I think, is that this album was recorded on July 1, 1971, at The Fillmore West, within a few days of the show that I had seen! I felt like I was experiencing the fringes of a big family get-together. This is truly the most personal -- and surely the most "alive"-sounding -- of their live albums.
