A head trip in every key
2012 | Label: Third Man/Columbia

Even though Jack White has long cultivated a millennial bluesman persona — or at least maintained some anachronistic relationship with the blues — you rarely got the sense the White Stripes frontman was telling you his troubles. White’s debut solo album promises to unpack a lot of luggage: In the last year or so, he’s been deserted by bandmate Meg White and seen the White Stripes dissolve; he divorced from wife/supermodel/singer Karen Elson; and he’s… read more »

I usually don't do "major released music", preferring the more eclectic/experimental. So I got this as a fluke, and I am loving it. I just keep playing it, and find something tasty the deeper and deeper I go. Big Kissee to you, Jack White.

"Not quite White Stripeless"

BLUESMAN4EVER

Jack White wiith out the stripes is really a tongue in cheak sound of the Whitstrpes, wich I think is a good thing for fans of their past musical collaberations.I happen to be a big fan of his stumble bum style of singing and his less then polished playing on very old distinctive insterments. He proves with "Blunderbuss" that his stlyle prevails through the breakup with Meg.My favorites are the title cut ,I'm Shakin,Sixteen Saltines,Love Iteruption and On and On and On.I look foward to his next solo album as well.

can't stop hating this watered down pop crap

Aileen

Don't get it, never did. Doesn't rock hard, voice is annoying and off-key, melodies and harmonies are bland and purposefully derivative, not one redeeming quality unless you've never listened to the treasure trove of original music from the 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's.

Can't stop listening

FrankensteinsOffspring

This comes highly recommended from me, Frankenstein's Offspring. My favorite so far in 2012.

New This Week: Jack White, Death Grips, Omer Avital & More

By J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief

IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES GUILLOTIIIIINE. Or so went a song on Death Grips grab-you-by-the-throat breakout mixtape Exmilitary. I was obsessed with that after my first listen, and was therefore stunned when the unapologetically abraisive group not only a) got signed to a major (!) but b) had a new record pretty much ready-to-go. That (excellent) record is available today, along with a host of others. Let's hit the stacks. Death Grips, They… more »
