A Voice like Miles Davis Brittle Horn

RH3

You have heard this CD before; a desolate soundstape, a brittle voice, simple but joyful or longing tunes, and a well-pace and crafted emotional-spiritual nakedness. James Vincent McMorrow gives a 5-star performance and set of songs...in Deluxe form. Yes, highly recommended. His voice: a breath away from breaking, a paced entanglment of words sounding like tones from Miles Davis brittle horn. Unvarnished vocal harmonies. No instrumental fireworks...everything serves the song and McMorrow's focus on the words. Some of the melodies leave a feeling of sunlight in your heart and others of caged longing. McMorrow is artistically similar to M Ward and Ray LaMontagne (Trouble). I highly recommend this release (5 starts).

Silken

A lot of "couch music", quite samey solo male singers emerging at the minute in my opinion so you'd need to be pretty special to stand out in the game. This man's music is a cut above. Lyrics are superb, thinky and unusual. His voice is the real treat though. His particular songs and the way he sings them make falsetto male singing cool, smooth. We don't eat and If I had a boat are my favourites, I listen to them on repeat for days. Have been doing for months. The entire album as a whole is a real gem though, just buy it already!

New This Week: Sleigh Bells, Frankie Rose & More

By J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief

When it rains it pours, and this month has been a veritable flood. There are more new, great albums than I know what to do with. I need about 15 extra hours each day to listen to them all. Chances are you will, too. HERE WE GO. Sleigh Bells, Reign of Terror: This is probably where we have the discussion about how bands almost never sound good on Saturday Night Live. Artists we know are great… more »
