Vanska's Showpiece
When I first heard Vanska had been named the Music Director and Principal Conductor of The Minnesota Orchestra, I realized there was a reason for living here. I've seen Vanska conduct this live, and while nothing quite compares to this conductor's live performances of Sibelius No. 5, this one comes close. The Allegro Molto from the final version of the Symphony will take your breath away. While not up to the sonic majesty of this label, the recording has a nice soundstage and the sections are well-defined. If you loved Simon Rattle's 5th, you'll just love this.
