CRAZY 4 ROCKABILLY

BLUESMAN4EVER

Jeff Beck was crazy like a fox to do this album.I think with Jeff Beck you get what you pay 4,or is that play 4.I can see Jeff driving that piss-yellow hot rod of his from "American Grafitti"evry time I listen to this.He truly plays this role on this album and it sounds great!

This is played rather straight as an homage to Gene Vincent and, Jeff's hero, the amazing Cliff Gallup who played on Gene's greatest songs, but they are GREAT songs, and Beck sounds great. Cliff deserves the tribute and more recognition than he gets. Many of his licks live on in subsequent generations of players.

They Say All Music Guide

Jeff Beck has made many strange albums, but none were ever quite as strange as this. With the Big Town Playboys offering support, Beck rips through 18 Gene Vincent numbers (not “Be-Bop-a-Lula,” however), paying tribute to Vincent’s guitarist, Cliff Gallup. Beck sounds terrific as he reconstructs Gallup’s parts, but he doesn’t add anything to the originals. Still, Crazy Legs is a fun listen and offers many insights into Beck’s playing, if not Gallup’s. – Stephen Thomas Erlewine
