Joe Heaney (Seosamh Ã? hÃ?ineaÃ) was a very well-respected "sean-nós" singer who did specialise in songs in Irish. This quite challenging style of singing, which has parallels throughout the world. (technically most of the songs on this album are Irish, although Joe was likely familiar with Scottish songs. But the word "Celtic" is rarely used for this type of music.) He also had quite a thick west-Galway accent and English would have been his second language. He was also quite elderly when this was recorded meaning his voice wasn't as crisp, possibly which is why it offends the ears of the xenophobic listeners out there.
