I've been a fan of Joe's for quite a while. He puts out so much music it can be daunting at times, but this is the album that made me realize what a spectacular talent he is. It's his most cohesive and solid album and although I purchased it over a year ago I still listen to it almost every day. It illustrates what a wonderful storyteller he is, with evocative lyrics and wonderful arrangements. A must-listen!
I agree with the other reviewer! This artist was also unknown to me and usually this means one or two tracks may be OK or good and the rest fails. But not so this artist, the whole is good to excellent! There are shades of Van Morrison, glimpses of Ryan Adams, hints of Peter Himmelman, flavors of Ray Lamontagne but also a uniqueness of style and soul. So listen to a few tracks and then download the lot!
I had never heard of Joe Purdy, but came upon him entirely by accident browsing CD Baby. This is his fourth album, the earlier ones being acoustic (think Damien Rice). This, though, is a band album - subdued, mesmeric, incredibly affecting. The arrangements are intelligent and the vocal delivery excellent. One of the joys of e-music is the discovery of really high quality new music. Discover this!
