jazz that is head nodding AND fist pumping
Abercrombie, DeJohnette, and Holland manage to play just shy of "free jazz" in a way that rocks even as it slithers, but never screams in your ear. Track 1 will haunt you forever (showcasing Holland as a player and composer) the rest of Holland's tracks are cooly and alternately joyous and ominous without ever settling into either direction. Tracks 4&6 are frenetic but worth a few listens to get into the groove.
