Great Score for a Great Film!
This score is one of the great film scores ever created. A true Hollywood Pirate flavor that harkens back to Erich Wolfgang Korngold and his great works. There is tension, but with a flowing action; romance, but that has a little sneaky feel to it; and a great tongue in cheek feel that encompasses the film. Unlike the Pirates of the Carribean (which is an inferior film and the score is much too aggressive) Cutthroat Island keeps the flavor of why we love Pirates and Pirate Films. "Main Titles/Morgan's Ride" is an energetic opener to the film that exposes the lighthearted, yet enthusiastic nature of the film. The score continues with the motifs well placed and never over-used or diverging from the flow of the music. John Debney constructs a masterpiece that was highly over-looked. It deserved the Oscar for Best Score, but instead, because the film didn't do well at the box office, it fell behind. Any fan of film scores needs to have this music.
