Great album

charlesmt63

This sounds like Kansas in places, and there's a reason for that: John Elefante was the lead singer and one of the principle songwriters for Kansas in the early 1980s. In my opinion this is Elefante's best solo album, though all of his are good.

I Love This Album!

Especially the opening track "If You Just Believe" - beautiful! The album is more relaxed than his work with Petra or Mastedon, but you can tell that this is a man who walks with God and someone who has a hand for meaningful, strong lyrics (by now a rarity in CCM). This is music that touches your heart. If you like Petra's On Fire, Beyond Belief, and Unseen Power, check this album out. It's much softer, but lyric-wise and arrangement-wise similar. Thumbs up!

Not as good as its cover

aPhilologist

Good music and excellent production, as always, but the lyrics are schmaltzy in spots and most of the metaphors are inscrutable. “The Way That You Love Me” is an unfortunate attempt at country & western music. “Exit 39” sounds kind of like Bryan Adams. This album rocks harder than his first album, 'Windows of Heaven', but isn't nearly as focused and solid as 'Corridors'. The album cover reminds me of Chris Van Allsburg, for what that is worth! Check out his work with Mastedon (also on eMusic).

A multitalented man of God-given talent

DarkWyrm

John Elefante may be known for Kansas and such, but he is also known for being producer of award-winning groups like Petra. His solo work on this album happens to be perhaps the best-known one in mainstream CCM. The songs 'Home with a View' and 'Pass the Flame' received significant radio airplay back in the late 1990s, but his music is still quite relevant and does not sound the least bit dated even in 2005.

They Say All Music Guide

Former Kansas band member John Elefante released Defying Gravity in 1999. The album, being a blend of CCM, adult contemporary, and alternative Christian, offers an eclectic assortment of musical stylings. Included in this are “Pass the Flame,” featuring a soft folk-rock sound with pop-country influences, “Home With a View,” which is CCM set at a moderate pace with a catchy melody, and the rock-oriented “Don’t Leave the Band.” Elefante served as a co-writer on all ten of the project’s tracks. Lyrically, the songs range from the wonder of God’s love in “The Way That You Love Me” to childlike faith in “If You Just Believe.” – Ashleigh Kittle
