essential post-punk synth-pop

But what's the story behind "Touch and Go" having the same melodic refrain as Ultravox's contemporaneous "Mr. X"?

Perfect companion to Numan's Pleasure Principle

Great to see the post Ultravox John Foxx albums on e-Music. Loved this album when it was released, collected all the singles, they have stood the test of time: Underpass, No-One Driving, A New Kind of Man, Burning Car and Miles Away. This City is an excellent bonus track and believe Mr No is John's answer to the Ultravox track Mr. X. Film One and Glimmer visit his future ambient side.

John Foxx after leaving Ultravox came up with this touchstone album. This is a classic and a must have.

Foxx’s solo debut after leaving Ultravox!, Metamatic, achieves the same emotional transcendence as his previous group’s early highlight, Systems of Romance, despite a new reliance not just on synthesizers, but on a musical framework dependent on them. On Metamatic, Foxx cultivates a curious air of disinterest that never seems truly bored, but is much more extreme than even his unarguably distant vocal style for Ultravox!. It holds up as one of the peaks of the early-’80s fascination with emotionless, Kraftwerk-inspired synth pop. – John Bush
