Grey tickles Black Pressure
I remember when I first heard John Grant solo and it was GMF from Pale Green Ghosts album. And it was the first album in years that really woke me up. It told a story that was both painful and intensley sad but also remarkebly uplifting and god damb funky. GTBP immediately feels a bit more off guard and less angry but still personal and visceral and a little bit dark. But, still oh so funky, awesome blending of funktronica, pop and indie with a whole bucketload of Icelandic influence. This could so easily be the soundtrack to a Scandi-crime drama, set in the grey speckled coastline of an imaginary town invented by David Lynch for a Sweedish TV channel. Bit above all it is clever music with humour in the lyrics and lots of fun and for Grant a lot more fun and warmth. He has found love and it shows! Unlike track 11, far from Dissapointing and another triumph for the bearded balladeer.
