35 Years of Songwriting Craftsmanship

runnicles

This collection brings together '70s classics like Goodbye Suzie and Kid In A Big World with more recent material like My Beautiful Days with its references to changing times and attitudes towards gay artists in the public glare; Success, a plaintive yet understated view of how people see each other differently to how we see ourselves; and the title track written in 2004 in honour of John's mother who died thirty years earlier at only 50. There are also the covers, Bill Fay's anthemic Be Not So Fearful, Lou Reed's glam-decadent tale, Walk On The Wild Side, and probably Howard's most popular and enduring cover, Bowie's The Bewlay Brothers to which he brings his own style, not trying to compete with Bowie's original. This is certainly Some Of The Best, and as a taster for investigating more, it's impeccable.
