English folk classic
John Renbourn, guitarist extraordinaire, recorded this in 1977. It does not show its age. Indeed, the music is timeless. There are songs dating back to the Renaissance. But they still sound fresh today. There are many stand outs: "Talk about suffering" is a hymn sung a capella; "John Barleycorn" is not the version made famous by Traffic but easily holds its own; "Reynardine" and "My Johnny was a shoemaker" are English folksongs given a new spin with the addition of tablas, an Indian percussion instrument. If you enjoy English folk or early music you will appreciate this cd.
