a man of a certain age

OldSchool2000

JWH and I are about the same age - mid 40's - a time when the foibles of youth are far enough away that you can laugh at them, but the black box of the void is probably still a good way off, so we can bask in the joys of life a little. Not to say that this is boring, middle aged music. It has a little bite, a little punk - in an acoustic sort of way, but its not out to alienate anyone. I have been hearing these songs live for a few months at some of the many public appearances Mr. Harding makes in the NYC area, and heard in the context of friendly, small establishments, they have a little more urgency than the studio versions, but the album is definitely worth a listen.

On the wrong side

IvanEbbinghaus

JWH has crossed the bridge from clever to fey on this one. Prior releases showcased his ability to write songs that could raise a smile, but had just the right amount of bitterness or cynicism to go with them. This is cloying. Feel free to skip this one but almost everything else with his name on it is worth acquiring.
