Yes, it is...and no, it's not...

DocLandru

With all respect to the previous reviewers, this is NOT what was originally published on vinyl after the film thunderstruck theaters everywhere in 1977. ...what's here is MORE that what was on the vinyl. I think the best way to describe the difference is to think of the old vinyl recording like a suite that a composer rearranges from his ballet or opera in order to turn the music from a successful ballet or opera into a piece for the orchestral repertoire - and both in editing of musical themes and rearrangement of their order, which is often done when a suite is made. What we have here is something much closer to the original film score (almost like what one might get if one could just record the movie's sound and then eliminate the actors' speech than the 'original' music soundtrack from 1977 or '78...and that makes it BETTER than the original.

The Original Star Wars Soundtrack!

ilovekefir2

This is, indeed, the original. John Williams is a master at his craft, and this album is, of course, full of many of his most famous themes. Love Star Wars? Get it. Love John Williams? Get it. Love Soundtracks? Get it. Love Sci-fi and fantasy? Get it. In other words, if you're interested enough to be looking at this album and reading the reviews, get it.
