superb
This guy can really play and sing, and his band cooks. Very funky and soulful and great songs! Highly recommended.

If you don't know Jon's work, this is the right place to start. Not only is it his first cd, it is also his most accessible. Great keyboards and vocals, a really strong collection of musicians and a joy to play. His other cds are hard to find, but can be bought on his website. He records too infrequently, but then he has had a pretty heavy commitment as Bonnie Raitt's touring keyboardist for a while, and he does still turn up on other people's cds - from Louisianna Red, to Maria Muldaur to John Mooney. You will love this.
I only discovered Jon Cleary's recordings in recent months, and I became hooked very quickly! This is his first known recording, and it is much closer to the roots of his music than any of his following albums. On this now out of print album you can hear piano licks that come straight out of the New Orleans tradition - Professor Longhair in particular. There is also a nice variety of different rhythms and musical themes on this album. The funky backing band of local New Orleans musicians also adds plenty of spice to Cleary's enormous talent.
