Timeless and lonely soundscapes.

This is one of Jon Jenkins early solo projects, and it 'hints' at what would be coming in conjunction with fellow artist, David Helpling. I found this CD to be a little 'murky', and only found a few selections worth downloading. The trouble with many of Jenkin's offerings is, that most of them sound similar, and are almost indistinguishable from his later projects. For example: "Beyond City Lights" seems to use the same thematic premise as this earlier album. This is not to say Jenkin's is not a 'superior' artist, he just needs to vary his compass a little. Check-out his collaborations with Helpling, and you'll understand my point. Jon Jenkins is constantly striving for excellence, and I believe he still has quite a ways to go. The title-cut 'Flow' is a very-nice selection, and worth consideration. Not the best, or worst I've heard from an ambient artist. YMMV.

First i heard this cd lisend but never wailed about it. Many years later i found it in a box and it came to me, absolutly insane i could have missed this gem. Dont think anything else: its a very Very underrated and artfull cd. But as for all better music it will grow slowly so it did for me so.

Flows Slowly

A number of Jon Jenkins CD's flow from start to finish but I wouldn't say this one did for me. There are about 4 great tracks on this CD and the others I could live without.

Dark, Mysterious

Moonraven

This Ambient work by Jenkins encompasses the overall sound and spirit of the Spotted Peccary Music label and it's related artists. A brooding, dark and mysterious album, that seems to hint at two spiritual belief systems; that of Native America and Christianity, with haunting Native American drums and the song distinctly titled "A Word With The Vine", "The Vine" being a reference to Jesus Christ by his own words in the Bible.

Jon Jenkins does superior, ambient keys, composing, and performing 11 tranceworld pieces. As Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Giles Reaves, Michael Stearns, Vidna Obmana, or Jeff Greinke would deliver, so Jenkins offers us a classic. Moody, spaced, subdued, tribal, introspective, relaxing, flowing, dream-imaged music abides within Flow. Peter Buffet and Tim Story stylings in piano portions are pleasantly evident. That Michael Shrieve-styled percussion effect appears here and there. Best comparisons on this CD would be Roach’s Dreamtime Return crossed with Buffet’s The Waiting. There resides a yearning and inner resolve in each track, coupled with understanding and depth of soul. Jenkins’ work inspires and heals. David Helping, Jeff Pearce, and Howard Givens contribute ambient electric guitars on assorted tracks. – John W. Patterson
