Amazing Sonics

The recording quality of this is superb. The performance is as good as I've heard although I can't say I've heard all of these titles by other performers. I haven't noticed any of the tracks cut off at the end as has been the problem with other eMusic downloads. That problem seems to come when selecting out tracks rather than downloading a whole album.

I've lived contentedly for decades with Arthur Grumiaux's great recording of this astounding music, and have loved the (first) Milstein renditions, but, aw c'mon, Julia Fischer is pretty much beyond belief. I feel compelled to add a word about PentaTone's amazing capture of her incandescent violinistry, something that won't come through at the MP3 level on offer here, but check it out on Emusic and then, assuming your brain is on fire or at least experiencing some major degree of interest, go seek out the originals on disc. It's like being reborn inside a violin, but I can think of worse fates than that, and few better fiddlers than the omigoditude of Julia Fischer, musicienne extraordinaire. Tune in, ear up, and prepare to be amazed.
