Justin Townes Earle, Yuma
Label: Bloodshot Records

Justin Townes Earle originally released Yuma, his 2007 debut, on his own label, principally to give himself something to sell to crowds after gigs. It's not difficult, however, to understand why Bloodshot thought it deserved a wider hearing — or why they retained Earle for 2008's accomplished The Good Life. simply marvelous

E-music spoon fed me the album "Harlem River Blues". I fell in love and went to check out his other works. This one is going to be doing overtime on the I-pod. Brings a smile to my face. I love Ghost of Virgina but it is all 5 star marvelous. Just download it! Go check all of 'em out. This kid has it!

Breaking into the Light

Aspiring offspring of famous musicians find it difficult to break free of the shadow cast by a famous parent. Justin Townes Earle through his songs has stepped out of the obscurity of darkness to bask in the rays of his own sunlight.

Great EP Great Artist

I was little turned off when I heard his name. Hearing the record made me forget who his dad is. I would prefer listening to this over any of last few records his dad did. Check him out live if you can.

Excellent Record!

I found this by accident on hypem.com and immediately fell in love with the title cut 'Yuma' We got lucky enough to see him play at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco a few weeks later and it was a great show. Justin and his bassist had just had all their gear ripped off in Austin during SXSW and it seemed like the crowd response started to make them feel better about the whole tour. Enjoy!

New This Week: Madonna, Mirel Wagner, Billy Hart & More

By J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief

Madonna decided to wreak a little havoc by releasing her 12th album, MDNA, yesterday instead of today, which caused a host of other acts to do the same thing. To which I say: NICE WORK, SHEEP. We'll forgive you this time. Here's what I found. Tell me what I missed in the comments. Madonna, MDNA: Madonna's 12th album finds her reuniting with producer William Orbit on several tracks, teaming with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj on another… more »
