Kekko Fornarelli, Room of Mirrors
2011 | Label: Jazz Engine / BFM DIGITAL

The late Esbjorn Svensson transformed the piano trio with his use of electronic effects and a penchant for dynamic melodies that strayed far out to the fringes of jazz. Unsurprisingly, he inspired a new wave of pianists. With Room of Mirrors, Kekko Fornarelli has positioned himself as the torch bearer of the New Piano Trio. Kekko’s talent as pianist and composer is evidenced in his fearless use of dramatic tension and the wisdom to never… read more »

Enjoyable

This record does not have the kind of strong melodies that leave you humming them, but it does have great textures, chords and feel - enough to make this the most enjoyable download I've made for a while.

"Brad Mehldau meets Esbjörn Svensson" But still a very personal grip from Fornarelli. Love it!

Where else but eMusic can you find such an incredible album in 2 minutes after freezing your butt off walking your dog in 16F for $3.92. This is an album of sheer beauty. Take it from someone who is cold and sober.

I should wait, I should listen a few more times, but I can't stop myself. This is one of those albums that I haven't even heard the last note, but I have to tell someone, anyone, about this fantastic music I'm hearing. A piano trio with some electronics (restrained and unobtrusive). Nice dramatic touch on the keys, resonates nicely, bass does the peek-a-boo thing on tracks where it fits in so nicely it's barely noticeable than comes out with a string of notes to fill an interval of silence that's just outstanding. Drums almost steal the show with their gentle wash and dynamic bursts. Damn, what a wonderful album. Time may temper my enthusiasm a bit, but there is something special about just gushing about an album on first listen and shouting it out to the crowd. Fans of Esbjorn Svensson Trio should definitely be giving this a listen. Cheers.
