Like Chambers’ previous solo LP, No Reaction is far more restrained in attack than his four blitzing LPs with glorious, sledgehammer-heavy, blistering Boston post-punks, Moving Targets, but it’s just as effective (forget he was also a part of abysmal, better known proto-metallers Bullet Lavolta). Especially where it really gets going 1/3 through, on such songs as “Operation” and “To Hard to Wait” where the kid gloves come off, and Chambers’ backing band smacks as hard as his storming guitar. If mid-’80s Boston contemporary Evan Dando is the lite beer of this sound, Chambers is the rotgut whiskey with a kick, with hooks so harsh it’s punishing pleasure; No Reaction kicks serious butt too. – Jack Rabid
