Simultaneously serious and fun
Chief Excel's beats are outstanding and Lateef proves that he's not just a comedian on this album that is heavy in many ways. Every Blackalicious fan should own this.

Amazing sound. The cheif's prod. work on this is on point, so many funk cuts. Lateef as always is a presence with his intonation and cadence. Check out "Matter of Time" and "Lester Hayes"...nasty!
In case you're wondering, the Maroons are Lateef the Truth Speaker of Latryx, and Chief Xcel of Blackalicious. Fat funk beats plus entertaining, sometimes politically edged, lyrics equals an album you should get. "If" feels like Rage Against The Machine meets George Clinton on a BART platform. Chief Xcel's production isn't as laid back as on the typical Blackalicious track, and the result is great.
