It's a live recording - the sound quality is what you'd expect, and the versions of songs known from other sources (Big Science, etc.) are obviously different. Still, the full package is surprisingly intense even 30 years later. There's a postmodern, political statement to be found here. It still matters.
eMusic's new credit system makes this album difficult to purchase: I have fewer than 48 credits per month, credits don't roll over, and if I download the tracks individually over a period of months, I use substantially more credits than if I could just get the whole thing at once -- which is only possible with the purchase of a booster pack. I'll probably do it, but it would be a lot easier if eMusic allowed a month or two of rollover -- given their new system.
I saw this performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, in, when was it, 1982 I think? It was quite impressive. It's more like a vaudeville show than a coherent work, as it combines a lot of individual pieces from different records and performances. But it worked very well, and was thoughts-provoking. It was performed over two nights, and there was a lot of staging. The music alone does not do justice to the work, and it's a shame it wasn't filmed. But it's got plenty of wonderful bits in it, well worth listening to. It represents a different time, though, and a lot of it is dated (though a lot was prescient too).
