CD from first-class salsero Lefty Perez. With his clear, commanding, tenor voice, Perez takes control of his blistering, ready-for-action band with apparent ease. Like a hot knife through butter, he cuts through pure danceclub tracks like "Salseros Unidos," "Mentiras" and "Mi Puerto Rico, a few of the best numbers on this CD, with savvy. The dozen original tracks here many written by Mr. Perez and arranged, clearly with experienced salsa know-how mostly by Milton Sesenten and Victor "Papo" Ortiz, are so good, it begs to ask "where has this guy been?" Check out the shear force he's able to create with his composition "Guaya Guaya" (with Alfredo De La Fe, no less, on violin). But the entire CD ranks right up there with some of the best salsa to have come out this year.
