If Tom Waits were Russian, he'd be Leningrad. Outstanding!

This music is incredibly original, extremely funny and witty and truly musical. They do curse a lot (in russian), but that adds the flavor. I was blown away!!!!! Samii klassnii russkii rok ya slishal za ochen dolgoe vryemya. No imeyte v vidu, ochen mnogo mata. ;)
... Leningrad is pure musical enjoyment, where Gogol Bordello makes me wish that the musicans were more capable of delivering the music that they are attempting to play. Leningrad reinvents and makes fun of the music that they are referencing, Gogol just makes sad copies of better songs. Do not misunderstand me, I think Gogol could be 10,000% better, and I wish there would get better. Leningrad is the REAL thing.
however, just for clarification this is actually their vocalist Sergei Shnurov's solo album that was only available in a limited edition release of Hleb (Bread). Bless E-Music for having this here for us, otherwise it would be really hard to come by. Very much in line with Leningrad's recordings - no difference really and that's a good thing. Take the time to look into Leningrad and Shnurov in particular - a very interesting force to be reckoned with and more in keeping with the TRUE spirit of punk than anything I have seen since the Clash.
I'm not an expert in this genre, so please excuse this poor comparison, but Leningrad reminds me of a rawer, mellower, Gogol Bordello (out of NYC). The feeling is that of a small bar where the majority of the audience (and group) is sloshed, which only adds to the quality of the performance. Lots of cool accordion accompanyment as well.
