Great album

One of my favourites for a long time - one of the CDs I kept when I drastically reduced my collection a few years back. You can immediately tell the guys are enjoying their expensive new equipment compared to their first scratchy, lo-fi outing. Stand outs - Tied Up - typically LFO, square-wave bass glitchy blast. Loch Ness, starts off quiet and builds into a huge, pounding epic wall of noise (it doesn't get into its stride in the short preview here). Psychodelik - it builds slowly and doesn't really change all that much, but has an infectious quality all the same. Shove Piggy Shove - little but brush-snare and reverb soaked synth stabs - some very deep bass as you'd expect from LFO - more than the sum of its parts. There are a couple of forgettable tracks on the album but the good stuff more than makes up for it.

They Say All Music Guide

Nearly legendary as the album-that-almost-never-happened, Advance was a full five years in the making, with hardly a peep of new material in between. The result isn’t as essential as their debut, but growth and maturity are evident, particularly in the focus and depth of composition. The material flows nicely, with the heavier, more body-oriented material broken up by contemplative, atmospheric ambient interludes. – Sean Cooper
