They Say All Music Guide

While not nearly as thorough as 1992′s ridiculously complete Funkyworld: The Best of Lipps, Inc., Funkytown delivers all of the uptempo proto-new wave hits in one convenient package. Of course, the bad and good are present (why on earth anyone would unearth “Jazzy” and “I Need Some Cash” for a revival is beyond a guess), but the positive thing is that the good outweighs the bad with Lipps Inc., with some high-energy disco stompers and fun new wave numbers that will light up any party. Collectors of the group might want to stick with the aforementioned Funkyworld, but casual listeners will find this a more than sufficient survey of a brief yet largely unheralded career. – Rob Theakston
