rock your brain

I am reminded when listening to LITE of artists like Gone or Fire Merchants. This too is high concept, complex, instrumental rock. The speed and energy inherent in the music bring as much excitment as a good punk or metal song. The careful arrangements are on a par with a Miles Davis tune. The key here though is not the playing and technical skill. These guys write songs. Without that essential quality it would degenerate into self-indulgent noodling. Highly recommended

Lite? Brilliant!

This lot (from Japan) should be considered in the same breath as legends like Don Caballero and contemporaries like 65 Days of Static and Explosions in the Sky... although admittedly it would be the latter as played by John Peel (at 45 rather than 33rpm!) Purely instrumental, their complex arrangements and nano-second precision are astonishing. If you want to pick tracks, start with Human Gift, Contemporary Disease and Recollection... and by next month, you'll want the rest of them. They're touring the UK in September 07: www.myspace.com/liteband - the drummer (in particular) has to be seen to be believed!
