Strong Blowin', Weaker Writin'
As you'd expect from a man who pioneered a new Blues harp technique, everything on this disc (plus three cuts I added from other albums) centers on the blowing. This means that, along with the song writing, the band takes a back seat to the man with the harp. Not that that's a bad thing. Little Walter was great; his sinuous playing is always a joy to listen to as he bends and chirps his way through number after number. Just be prepared for Blues harmonica that will blow you away, backed by a rhythm section that will bring you back down to earth. And song writing that lacks the wit and deftness that sometimes bring Blues very close to poetry.
