Great music well performed

We don't hear enough of Finzi's music in broadcasts or major concerts. These recordings do justice to him and the performers. Peter Katin knows just how to handle both the Eclogue and the Grand Fantasia and Vernon Handley and the New Philharmonia are on top form. Sir Adrian Boult is a grand master of conducting the London Philharmonia and the whole album is good listening.

Gerald Finzi did not put a note wrong in these compositions. It is a pity he did not write more orchestral works. His clarinet and cello concerto are among the best. An underrated composer who deserves the attention he gets nowadays
