Look for the full sets of 9 symphonies

EMusic has two of the full sets by Haitink. One is on two disks listed under Haitink and the other has 6 disks and is more expensive, listed uner LSO. The tracks are identical to those in the albums on eMusic having fewer symphonies.

I have a great deal of time for Berard Haitink. He is a conductor of great standing. But what happened to Movement's 3 & 4. they appear not to be downloadable. Despite this, I have downloaded all 9 symphonies. The LSO was on great form as usual. Well what do you know. Emusic sent me an email to the effect that they were unable to change the available tracks, but now they have and you can now play Symphony No 5 in all its 4 movment glory.

Why the tracks are missing

I receiced this message when I asked eMusic about the missing tracks: "Thank you for contacting eMusic Customer Support. At this time, due to licensing restrictions tracks 3 and 4 from the album Symphonies Nos. 5 & 1 are not available on eMusic. The label has chosen not to make this track available for download. This could be due to licensing deals with other companies (such as commercials, movies, etc.) for that one particular song. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope it will become available in the near future. "

Missing tracks

Note that tracks 3 and 4 are missing from this album. This is a great shame as I was looking forward to listening to this great conductor and orchestra. But my experience is that emusic are not quick at fixing these types of problems, if they ever fix them at all. Still, I will check back later to see how they get on.

Two more excellent performances in Haitink's superb LSO Beethoven. There may still be a problem, though, when burning to CD, in the transition into the finale because of the way tracks 3 and 4 have been ripped. Test first!

No Longer Spoilt

I downloaded this and it's great. If you use iTunes 7 the gap problem between tracks mentioned by the previous reviewer is no longer a problem. Just make sure that the "Gapless Album" option is turned on for those tracks. Works like a charm!
