Lonnie Brooks uncorks one snarling blues lick after another on this worthwhile set.
1983 | Label: Alligator Records

Lonnie Brooks 'second album, Hot Shot features a new reading of Guitar Jr.'s “Family Rules” that is primo make-out material despite the bummed-out lyric, while “Don't Take Advantage of Me” and “One More Shot” offer a double dose of roadhouse blues and “Messed Up Again” uncorks some snarling blues-rock guitar. There's only a couple slow ones here to chill things out, but that's quite alright.

Lenoir’s “One More Shot,” and a faithful remake of Lonnie Brooks’ own “Family Rules” from the Guitar Junior era. – Bill Dahl
