Breaking new ground, softly
As a rocker, Lucas Silveira is a force to be reckoned with. My personal favorite of his previous work is "Dirty King," from the album of the same name. It's an amazing piece of updated hard surf rock - go get it now. In Mockingbird, Lucas trades in his Gibson SG and Orange amp for an acoustic guitar and a plate reverb. It's a completely different approach, both musically and emotionally. Drums are absent on most tracks, and the force of the songs come from emotional intensity, not driving rock rhythms. For those who want Dirty King, Vol 2, you'll have to keep waiting. For those who want a deeper look into Lucas' heart and his musicianship, here's your chance. Performing a self-penned song is an act of metaphorical nakedness, and in Mockingbird we get to see and hear Lucas without the wall of sound the Cliks have provided in the past. It's a brave choice; I'm looking forward to having this album grow on me.
