Really good record

Give this one to your friends that don't like country music. They still won't, but they'll have a harder time making fun of you. Plus, the lead singer sounds like he could kick your ass while sighing about how tough life is.

It is amazing to me that more music lovers do not know of Lucero, this album, just like all their albums, absolutely affect you. This is one group that leaves you feeling something.

The quintessential Lucero record

alexashton

That Much Further West showcases everything this band is so good at; gritty vocals, rough-around-the edges but heartfelt, personal lyrics and a perfect combination of southern rock and roll and alternative country. Another record equally at home during a cross-country road trip or for playing while sitting around with your best friends on a lazy summer afternoon shooting whiskey chased with Pabst Blue Ribbon.

DON'T MISS THIS!

It really doesn't matter which album you listen to first from these four fantastic musicians... you'll be hooked. They tour all over the country with a ferver, and their live shows are becoming legendary (especially in Chicago). Like the title says, DON'T MISS THIS! LUCERO will be your next favorite band. -Mo

They Say All Music Guide

With a sound that references Bruce Springsteen, the Replacements, and Whiskeytown, Lucero have crafted the Great American Rock & Roll Record — a true-blue album that has much more to do with Southern rock than revivalists like the Kings of Leon. That Much Farther West is full of Western sprawl, the grit and wonder of the open highway, everyday dreams, and the promise in a starry sky. Ben Nichols’ Arkansas rasp is the perfect country-rock voice — jammed with experience and heartache, and he lets all this out, whether on the anthemic title track or the shimmering, bittersweet “Across the River.” As with Uncle Tupelo, Lucero play country music, but they do it with the attitude of punk and the energy of good ol’ rock & roll. It makes for an intoxicating dynamic on brash numbers like “Hate and Jealousy” or the set’s standout rocker, “Tears Don’t Matter Much.” “I’m just a Southern boy who dreams of nights in N.Y.C.,” Nichols belts, but Lucero could never be just another New York City band — after all, it’s their ties to the great music history of where they’re from that make the band so genuine. [This version of the album includes an additional CD of bonus material.] – Charles Spano
