The most emotionally charged music in the micro/minimal continuum.
Label: Huume Recordings / The Orchard

The most emotionally charged music in the micro/minimal continuum belongs to the slight Finn born Sasu Ripatti. As Luomo, he's issued three albums, the first and best two of which are cherry-picked for this satisfying combo platter. The first three tracks, from 2000's Vocalcity, set the amorphous agenda: creeping-vine synth hooks over shadowy echoes, implacable basslines and vocal lines that gradually emerge from the dubby deep. The final four, from 2003's The Present Lover, are more corporeal: Ripatti's more confident and direct, resulting in stuff like “Body Speaking,” maybe the sexiest track in all of micro/minimal-dom, and “The Present Lover,” maybe the most dazzling.

This is Vladislav Delay?

Amazing how the guy can take on such different identities. This is dance music, no apologies offered or needed, and as dance music it's really good. My favourite track is "talk in a danger". That woman's voice does funny things to me.

The Present Lover and Vocalcity

Ipodgolddigger

Luomo a moniker for Sasu Ripatti who also develops music under the following names: Conoco, Sistol, Uusitalo and Vladislav Delay. This album brings forth the best songs of two of Luomo's albums; The Present Lover and Vocalcity. The album features a nice combination of the two album where The Present Lover has more vocals than Vocalcity, thus bringing a nice balance to the mix. I highly recommend this album for anyone that wouldn't mind microhouse and a hint of downtempo cooperatively. Thumbs up.

Microhouse and Minimal Techno

By Michelangelo Matos, eMusic Contributor

Techno has often been minimal by necessity. House music has too, as often as not. But when a handful of artists and labels began putting out the stuff codified by Philip Sherburne, in a piece for The Wire in September 2001, as "microhouse," it felt momentous — a real shift in the dance-music firmament, one that satisfied inward-looking laptoppers and gotta-dance club children equally. For one thing, rather than the severity of lots of stripped-down… more »
