On Podgelism, Jeff McIlwain (aka Lusine) and friends rewire, reconfigure and reimagine tracks from Lusine's 2004 album Serial Hodgepodge. Considering how quickly things change in the electronic music world, it's a welcome chance to slow down and revisit one of the Ghostly International's most underrated titles. The aforementioned “friends” include the IDM/house hybridizer Robag Wruhme, minimal techno's resident saddo (Lawrence) and none other than the Ameri-techno wunderkind Matthew Dear himself. Even Lusine gets into the act, providing re-works of his own material — “Still Frame,” for example, is transformed from its original ambient crawl to a Dabrye-style avant hip-hop joint. More techno-leaning than its predecessor, Podgelism may not please all fans of McIlwain's diverse brand of electronica, but it will leave you excited to hear what he's going to come up with next.
